I can't remember where I saw it, but I remember reading where one of the organizers or drs said "Wise County is our Katrina." Appalling. Simply appalling. I come from a very, very non-affluent family. We were never nor are we now anywhere near Katrina-type need. Whole other ball of wax there.

Second, I have lived in two different time zones and other places in this state. The questions are still the same: "You guys have running water? Do you still have to go outside to use the bathroom (outhouse)? Do you have electricity way back in those hollows?" And every chance there is to show off just how "poor" this area is, gets exploited beyond belief. Anybody remember the Letcher County thing with American Idol? I'm not an Edwards fan in any way, shape or form, but that has nothing to do with the next statement. His timing in coming here could not have been worse for this area.

its still worth it...

if 9 out 10 ppl abuse this, and 1 person who really needs it gets help, what can you say?

kinda like our welfare system, i mean we can't throw it away simply because ppl abuse it.

Well Jessie Jackson came to the fairgrounds before. So now the the total is atleast 3 as for the people who have visited the fairground that I wouldnt vote for.

I went there this morning, started @ 9. Edwards didn't say much, but thanked all of the volunteers for everything to do w/RAM, and then said he was gonna fight for a universal health care program.

For a universal health care program to work we'd first have to reform welfare. And of course your gonna have to be on the watch out for people just trying to get pain pills. Heck most of the time these people just wind up selling them or over medicating themselves. And when stuff like that happens it only makes it harder for the ones who really need medication and analgesics to get the care they need.

Nope, just convince those who will be paying for such a program that they don't really need that money.

I remember being in Norway in 1996 they have universal health care or whatever you want to call it. There was a guy that ran our diesel generator supplying electricity to the ship. After talking with him about different stuff found out he made about 70k US a year. He could not even fix the diesel generator if it broke down he called someone else. His taxes were huge I forget the amount but got a taste of it when we were on liberty in BERGEN - A Local pint was 5 US dollars, local cigaretts were 4.50 US a pack. A carton of marlboro was 60 US dollars..They called it the sin tax. Also a whopper meal at the BK was 6.50 US
But the young man was very happy with his dental and health care but he also hated the taxes..you cant have it both ways.

Health care - good and cheap just dont go together.
